Our 2009 products included an emergency-use stove - the Hexagon Stove - that burns solid fuel tablets. We received a lot of feedback on the stove, mostly requests to make the stove more robust (for "first use" and not just "last-ditch" use) and more efficient. We went back to the drawing board (well, CAD software) and the result is the brand new 2010 GearPods Stove System (pictured below with the burner).

Let's start at the top and work our way down. The new CookMug Lid is thermoplastic elastomer, a rubberized plastic. It looks and feels great, plus it features a great fit with the CookMug itself. Speaking of CookMug, the main change we made was to reduce its height - it is now 9.5 fl oz with the lid engaged. It is still beveled but in such a way that it has a much tighter fit with the stove. The result is a much more stable stove. A subtle change we made was to add concavity to the base of the CookMug, serving to increase the surface area for trapping flames and heat. Last but not least, the neoprene insulated band has been replaced with a Silica band that is unbelievably flame retardant.
The GearPods Stove is now one-piece with three legs that rotate out from the base. No more detachable legs! It was also designed to allow side loading of the Burner (used to burn denatured alcohol instead of solid fuel tablets). GearPods Stove also now comes with a fabricated Aluminum windshield complete with venting holes and a latch system.
The entire system still fits into an XL GearPods container. The new
GearPods Stove System is available as a kit and has been incorporated into new versions of our multi-kit systems such as GearPods Backcountry and GearPods Wilderness. The
individual components that comprise the GearPods Stove System are also available separately.
